3Co. Design Lab Regulations

Article 1 (General Provisions of the Editorial Board)

• 1. The purpose of these regulations is to establish rules for the operation of the Editorial Board of <Sustainable Design>.
• 2. The Editorial Board is established to deliberate on the review, editing, and publication of papers to be published in <Sustainable Design> issued by the Institute.
• 3. The Board discusses and decides on all enactments, amendments, and abolitions related to the Editorial Board.

Article 2 (Composition and Term of the Editorial Board)

• 1. The Editorial Board shall be selected by the Board of Directors among the members of the Institute who are at the level of assistant professor or higher, hold a doctoral degree, or have more than 10 years of experience in design-related fields.
• 2. The number of members of the Editorial Board shall be around 10, considering research achievements in sub-fields and regional distribution.
  • 1) One Editor-in-Chief
  • 2) Up to two Deputy Editors-in-Chief
  • 3) Around 10 Editorial Board members (including the Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editors-in-Chief)
  • 4) One Director of the Editorial Secretariat
• 3. The Editor-in-Chief is assumed by the Vice President of the Academic Paper Division of the Institute and appointed by the President with the approval of the Board of Directors.
• 4. The Deputy Editor-in-Chief is appointed by the Director of the Institute upon the recommendation of the Editor-in-Chief among the directors of the Academic Division and assists the Editor-in-Chief in executing the practical affairs of the Editorial Board.
• 5. Members are proposed by the Editor-in-Chief, approved by the Board of Directors, and appointed by the Director of the Institute. In principle, members must have published at least 5 academic papers (including books) within the last 3 years at the time of appointment.
• 6. The term of office for the Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editors-in-Chief, and members is 2 years, and they may be reappointed.

Article 3 (Duties and Authority of the Editorial Board)

• 1. The Editorial Board has an independent status regarding the editing affairs of <Sustainable Design>.
  • ① The Editorial Board deliberates on regulations concerning content composition, submission, and review for the publication of <Sustainable Design>, composes the board, recommends and appoints reviewers, and requests reviews.
  • ② The Editorial Board decides whether to publish a paper through independent judgment, such as evaluation based on review results, exchange of opinions between submitters and reviewers, and mediation.
  • ③ The Editorial Board has the authority to decide on other matters related to editing and publishing, such as publication order, number of copies issued, electronic publication format, review fees, and submission fees.
• 2. The Editor-in-Chief must report the results of editing and publishing the journal to the Board of Directors.
• 3. Editorial Board members must not leak personal information of members acquired through board activities to the outside.

Article 4 (Publication of Special Issues)

1. In the event of special circumstances, a special issue may be published through a resolution of the Editorial Board. However, papers published in special issues may only be published if they are judged suitable through the review process prescribed by the editorial regulations of <Sustainable Design>.

Article 5 (Editorial Board Operation and Budget)

• 1. The Editor-in-Chief must convene the Editorial Board at least 4 times a year. However, board meetings may be replaced by online meetings considering nationwide distribution.
• 2. Board meetings are convened when deemed necessary by the Editor-in-Chief or upon the request of one-third or more of the members regarding review and publication. Decisions are made by the attendance of a majority and the affirmative vote of a majority of the attending members.
• 3. The Editor-in-Chief may convene subcommittees as necessary.
• 4. Expenses incurred in editing affairs are covered by submission and publication fees, and shortages are supported by the budget of the 3Co. Design Lab.

Article 6 (Editorial Advisory Board)

• 1. An Editorial Advisory Board is formed for other systematic affairs concerning the editing and publication of the journal.
• 2. Advisory members are appointed by the Director of the Institute upon the recommendation of the Editor-in-Chief among prominent authorities with outstanding achievements in brand design and related academic fields.
• 3. The term of office for advisory members is 3 years, and they may be reappointed.
• 4. The role of the advisory members is to provide advice to ensure academic validity and social/ethical responsibility regarding editing and research content.

Chapter 1 General Provisions

• Article 1 (Purpose)
  The purpose of these regulations is to establish research ethics that researchers who present papers to academic conferences or journals hosted/published by this Institute must follow, to prevent misconduct related to research activities in advance, and to prescribe matters related to the operation of the Research Ethics Committee.
• Article 2 (Subject of Application)
  These regulations apply to all researchers directly or indirectly related to academic research activities within the Institute.
• Article 4 (Definition of Terms)
  Acts that damage the integrity of research intentionally or through gross negligence in the process of conducting and presenting research are considered research misconduct as follows:
  • 1. Plagiarism: The act of appropriating all or part of another person's research content without indicating the source.
  • 2. Fabrication: The act of falsely creating and recording non-existent data or research results.
  • 3. Falsification: The act of arbitrarily changing or omitting materials related to research, thereby distorting research content or results.
  • 4. Duplicate Publication: The act of republishing all or part of one's previously published research without legitimate approval or appropriate citation.
  • 5. Unjustified Authorship: The act of not granting authorship to a person who has contributed to the research content or results, or granting authorship to a person who has not contributed.
  • 6. The act of intentionally interfering with an investigation into allegations of one's own or another's misconduct or harming an informant.
• Article 5 (Obligation to Observe Research Ethics)
  Researchers must faithfully fulfill their responsibilities as academic researchers and must observe the Institute's Charter of Academic Research Ethics and related norms when conducting research activities.

Chapter 2 Ethical Guidelines for Researchers

• Article 1 Attitude as a Researcher
  
  Section 1 (Respect for Rights and Dignity)

  ① Researchers respect human values and do not discriminate against human beings based on race, gender, religion, age, disability, etc.
  ② Researchers respect the personality and rights of other researchers and acknowledge academic diversity.
  ③ Researchers must not engage in acts that defame the Institute or other researchers for personal gain.

  Section 2 (Efforts to Improve Expertise)

  ① Researchers must strive to grasp the latest information in the design field and cultivate professional knowledge through continuous research.

• Article 2 Researcher's Attitude
  

  ① Researchers must not commit plagiarism by appropriating others' ideas, research content, or results without legitimate approval or citation.

  ② Researchers must not commit falsification by artificially manipulating research materials or equipment, or arbitrarily altering or deleting data.

  ③ Researchers must not commit fabrication by falsely creating non-existent data or results.

  ④ Researchers must not grant authorship to individuals who have only made scientific, technical, or design contributions without directly participating in the research, simply as an expression of gratitude or courtesy.

  ⑤ Researchers must not submit or publish duplicate research that has already been published.

  ⑥ When citing public academic materials or others' writings, researchers must accurately describe them and reveal the source.

Chapter 3 Ethical Guidelines for the Publishing Institution

• Article 1 Regulations on the Protection of Researcher Information
  

  ① The Institute must strive to protect the personal information and privacy of researchers.
  ② When it is necessary to disclose the personal information of researchers and ongoing research content, the Institute will disclose it to a minimum with the premise of their consent.

• Article 2 Regulations for Editorial Board Members
  

  ① Editorial Board members must respect the personality and academic beliefs of researchers and decide whether to publish submitted research solely based on the qualitative level of the research and submission regulations.

• Article 3 Ethical Regulations for Reviewers
  

  ① Reviewers must fairly and faithfully evaluate the paper subject to review based on objective criteria within the specified period and notify the Editorial Board of the results.
  ② Reviewers must keep the paper confidential and must not disclose or cite the content without the author's consent before the journal is published.

Chapter 6 Verification of Misconduct and Sanctions

• Article 1 Verification of Research Misconduct
  

  ① The committee must investigate whether research misconduct has occurred when there is a specific report or significant suspicion.
  ② If a judgment of research ethics violation is made with the attendance of a majority of registered members and the affirmative vote of a majority of attending members, the committee confirms the act as research misconduct.

• Article 3 Sanctions
  

  ① Papers judged to involve research misconduct will have their publication canceled.
  ② The fact of cancellation and details of the violation will be announced on the Institute's website.
  ③ If the misconduct is intentional, submission of papers will be prohibited for the next 3 years.

1. Purpose and Content

• 1) The purpose of these regulations is to improve the efficiency and transparency of the paper submission process by prescribing the submission and writing methods for papers submitted to Sustainable Design for review.
• 2) Submitted papers must be related to design, contribute to the development of related academic and industrial fields, and be recognized for their originality. Content previously published in other domestic or international journals cannot be submitted.
• 3) Submitted manuscripts are subject to review based on the journal's review regulations to determine publication.

2. Qualifications for Submission

• 1) There are no restrictions on qualifications for submission to this journal. Any researcher in design-related fields can submit.
• 2) The number of papers that can be published under the same author's name in a single issue of this journal is limited to two, including co-authored papers.

3. Types and Categories of Papers

• 1) Research Paper
  A paper discussing design topics theoretically or empirically, revealing a valid logical structure, and possessing academic originality.
• 2) Project/Artwork Paper
  A paper containing logical descriptions of design outcomes recognized for their academic value and comprehensive completeness.

4. Method of Submission

• 1) Online Submission
  Authors wishing to submit a paper must sign up on the website of Hanyang University 3Co. Design Lab (https://hanyanglab.com/) and submit it online. All information identifying the author must be deleted before submission.

5. Manuscript Writing Guidelines

• 1) Language
  The language can be either Korean or English. If English, a Korean translated title must be indicated below the title.
• 2) Length
  Submittable papers must be a minimum of 8 pages.
• 3) Structure of the Manuscript
  In principle, manuscripts should be written in the order of Title, Table of Contents, Korean Abstract, English Abstract, Keywords, Main Text, and References.
• 5) Abstracts
  Abstracts must concisely include the research purpose, methodology, content, and conclusion.
• 6) Keywords
  Keywords should consist of up to 5 words representing the paper's content.
• 7) Headings
  English paper titles should capitalize the first letter of nouns. The main text should logically unfold in a clear sequence (e.g., 1. / 1.1. / 1.1.1...).
• 11) References
  References should be listed in alphabetical order. Journals, Books, Reports, and Websites must follow the APA format (e.g., Jasper & Lan, 1992).

6. Publication Fees

• 1) Publication fees are paid after publication is confirmed following the review. Separately, a review fee of 100,000 KRW is prepaid upon submission.
• 2) The basic printed volume is 10 pages (basic fee: 100,000 KRW). An additional fee of 10,000 KRW per page applies if this is exceeded.

7. Copyright

• 1) The copyright of all papers published in Sustainable Design belongs to the 3Co. Design Lab, and submission itself is interpreted as consenting to the transfer of copyright after publication.

1. Purpose

The purpose of these regulations is to prescribe the review and acceptance of papers submitted to "Sustainable Design".

2. Selection of Reviewers

• 1) The Editor-in-Chief requests recommendations for reviewers from all Editorial Board members for papers that pass the initial suitability screening.
• 2) Based on the recommended list, the committee compiles a final list of 3 specialized reviewers per paper.

3. Requesting a Review

• 1) The committee assigns 3 reviewers per paper and requests a review.
• 2) The identity of the author must not be exposed to the reviewers during the review process (Blind Peer Review).

4. Review Period

• 1) Reviewers must reply with the review results within 14 days from the date of the request for the initial review.
• 2) If opinions are not submitted within 14 days, the Editor-in-Chief issues a first reminder, and reviewers may be dismissed if not submitted within 5 days thereafter.

5. Criteria and Judgment

• 1) Criteria include originality, clarity, completeness of structure, abstract quality, verification level, and academic contribution to design.
• 2) Based on the criteria, reviewers judge the paper as one of the following: Accept, Accept with Revisions, Re-review after Revisions, or Reject.

7. Re-examination Procedure

A maximum of one re-examination is allowed. If the paper fails to reach "Accept" or "Accept with Revisions" even after re-examination, it is judged as "Reject".

8. Security

All information related to paper reviews cannot be disclosed to third parties under any circumstances.
